A FIRST FOR COFFEE & TEA LOVERS; A PLACE TO MEET, GREET & TASTE

The industry is brewing more than ever, paving the way for the inaugural Café Asia 2013 and International Coffee & Tea Industry Expo 2013 (ICT Expo 2013). Held in Singapore, the exhibitions which ran concurrently attracted 95 exhibitors from 22 countries and marked the largest gathering of tea and coffee industries in South East Asia.

Asia has great potential for this industry to expand and ICT Expo 2013 served as a platform for companies to raise their brand awareness and establish relationships with key global suppliers, industry buyers and exhibitors. Especially when 4 out of 10 top countries producing Robusta coffee beans are from Southeast Asia, namely Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand with Sri Lanka, China and India making up almost half of the world’s tea exports. The event is timely judging from how import of coffee beans in Singapore has spiked from SGD1.1b to SGD1.4b from 2008-2011.

The Asia Coffee Summit was a highlight which brought together established professionals of the industry as speakers who examined issues in sustainable practices and how to best implement them in the industry. From managers to the front line – baristas took the stage at the Singapore National Barista Championship 2013, the Singapore Latte Art Championship and The Cup Tasters Championship. The winners won honours to represent Singapore at the World Barista Championship 2013 in Melbourne.

Boosting the event were top manufacturers like PROBAT, Diedrich Manufacturing and Neuhaus Neotec whose trainers conducted insightful sessions on equipment, coffee beans and coffee processing. Trade and media visitors were treated to visual and taste experience by the Brew Bar featuring methods like Pouring, Chemex, Aeropress and Siphon outside the standard Espresso with SCA members like Papa Palheta, Strangers Reunion, Oriole Coffee Roasters and Tobys Estate presenting great cuppas of coffees from around the region.

Some 10,000 visitors attended the event hosted by the Singapore Coffee Association and jointly organised by Conference and Exhibitions Management Services (CEMS) and EXPORUM with the support of IE Singapore, Singapore Manufacturing Federation, Singapore Food Manufacturers’ Association, ASEAN Coffee Federation, the Singapore National Barista Championship 2013, Barista Association of Thailand, Café de Colombia, Philippine Coffee Board, Specialty Coffee, Association of Indonesia and the Sri Lanka Tea Board.
