Since 1927, this small five-man workshop founded in Germany specialising in commercial warewashing equipment has certainly come a long way. Today, MEIKO is recognised for high quality, reliable and environmentally friendly products. With a presence in major markets around the world, it has recently ventured into opening its latest regional office in Malaysia.

The office is set to be a hub as the company looks towards Southeast Asia as the Asian continent is rising fast in the hospitality industr y. According to Mr. Burkhard Randel, group Managing Director of MEIKO, who officiated the event, there is great potential in Asia and more food establishments are becoming more aware of “international standards” with regards to food preparation. And to achieve that acceptable standard, much emphasis are placed on equipment and utensils and without a doubt, a dish washing machine plays an impor tant role and would be a good star t in applying hygiene practices. Making available the full Meiko product range, customers can expect standard and premium under-counter glass and dishwashers, over to pass-through hood types, universal pot washers and the flight and rack type conveyor dish washing machines. For the flight and rack conveyor segment Meiko is known as a world market leader* and also recently launched its latest technology M-iQ flight and rack conveyor dishwashers in Asia, reflecting a new definition of cleaning technology. In addition, the company’s portfolio includes an advanced waste management system adopting a more effective solution for disposal- one that also takes into account the preparation areas and handling aspects of an industrial kitchen. The company’s own chemical Meikolon is due to arrive in the South East Asian market in the next couple of years.Meiko-2

During its opening, Regional Manager, Mr. Rudolf Kitzbichler spoke about the company’s choice of location for its expansion. Undoubtedly, Malaysia’s central location coupled with its strong economic growth, business friendliness, multiculturalism and an English speaking society made it ideal for the company to set up base. Meiko is no stranger to the shore; in fact, it has been in the country for over 30 years as its washing solutions were installed at the in-flight catering facilities at Subang airport and later at KLIA Sepang. The new office is a concrete solution, so to speak, as part of the company’s coverage of South East Asia which also encompasses Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, Brunei, Laos, Vietnam, Philippines, East Timor plus Hong Kong, Macau and Korea. In addition, the South East Asia office is the missing link between its operations in China, Australia, Middle East and India, providing full coverage to Meiko’s global support, sales and service network.

Also present to show their support at the Kuala Lumpur office were Mr. Jurgen Sachs (Group Financial Controller), Mr. Tim Walsh (Regional Manager of Middle East) and Mr Virendra Dutt (MD & CEO representing MEIKO India). Located within a popular business hub, the office is spearheaded by Rudolf together with a sales application engineer and a regional sales manager for the hospital sanitising equipment division with the plan of growing the team to 5 persons with a second application engineer and a service manager by the year’s end. MEIKO’s commitment to human capital is evident as the Malaysian team is backed by support from its counterparts in China, India and Middle East of more than 200 employees as well as the 1000-plus employees of its headquarters in Germany. A vital area customer care is regarding knowledge and MEIKO’s team first aims to provide insights for users and “it is then much easier for you to understand why an equipment is necessary”, shared Mr. Burkhard Randel. Without the right knowledge, purchasing almost always fall into what is cheaper, possibly making it a wasted investment. Small but sure, Meiko’s Regional Office South East Asia plans to operate through a network of selected dealers and service partners who will receive training from the company as it looks ahead to set up a competent network that guarantees satisfactory service and support to customers and operators. By having visibility locally, it aims to improve on response time and provide local support and understanding of Meiko’s global technology.
