AN ENCOURAGING BOOST IN GROWTH AND EXPOSURE

Over a space of 130,000 sq metres, 1,500 exhibitors took the space to showcase their latest technologies at the Shanghai New International Expo Center (SNIEC). Notable brands that were present included SIRMAN, Scotsman, Halton, CAMBRO, HOSHIZAKI, Manitowoc, CONVOTHERM, RATIONAL, DKSH, MKN, Fissler and many others. The increase in exhibitors triggered an influx of visitors that recorded a 36% increase and 63.3% overseas visitors compared to the 2012 edition. Industry leaders were present for the ‘Foodser vice in the 21st Century’ forum to share how advanced concepts can help catering operators contend in the fierce market and speakers like Jane Ganaway from Yum! China, Robin Ashton from Foodservice Equipment Report Magazine, Don Fisher from Fisher-Nickel, Francois Tesniere, award-winning architect and visionary designer kept the 200+ audience engaged with their wealth of knowledge and experience. Annually, HOTELEX organises the IPA Match-making Meeting for suppliers to meet hotel owners, opening opportunities in procurement. Among the participants were Accor Group, InterContinental Hotels Group, Starwood Hotel, Jin Jiang International, China Wanda Group and Greenland Group who met over 230 suppliers and established work relationships.HOTELEX-Shanghai-2013-2

Social media platforms such as Weibo and WeChat facilitated 24/7 interaction with audiences as well as generated onsite buzz and functioned as a guide to navigate the exhibition. A designated media centre enabled all media partners to be in one place for better visibility. Media par tners from home and abroad visited and covered the event, such as Channel Young, Drink International Magazine, Foodser vice Consultant Magazine, Hospitality Magazine, China Hotel Purchase News, Meadin.com, to name a few.

HOTELEX-Shanghai-2013-3Jazzing up HOTELEX was competitions like China Barista Championship (CBC) which gathered the best cof fee professionals in China and enthusiasts keen to pit their skills. To go with CBC was the inaugural World Latte Art Championship where contenders competed for a spot at the finals in Nice. Also launched at the event was the 2013 China Gelato Championship, co-organised by Carpigiani and Fabbri, as well as endorsed by Embassy of Italy to the People’s Republic of China, Consulate General of Italy in Shanghai and Masters of Italian Gelateria (MGI). In the Italian vein, HOTELEX featured an “Italian Chef on Stage” where chefs took audiences through tradition, technique and eating culture of Italians. Meanwhile, the aim of introducing USA food ingredients into Chinese restaurants saw a collaboration with the U.S. Agricultural Trade Office Shanghai Center, through the “Taste of the United States 2013 – Asian Master Chef Challenge” which saw award-winning Chinese chefs incorporating these ingredients into their creations. Adding to the exponential growth, wine-tasting at HOTELEX had wines and liquors from Argentina, Por tugal, Italy and the presence of China’s first independent wine critic, Susie Wu.
